Scheduled delivery: Fall 2018

From the 1st of January 2019, FosenNamsos will be operating two new Multi Maritime designed plug-in hybrid ferries on Flakk-Rørvik close to Trondheim, Norway.

The ferries are designed for full electric operation. Due to short terminal times and limitations in the grid onshore, a minor share of the vessels’ energy use may be covered by onboard diesel engines.

Batteries:

  • Fast charging of the batteries is made through fully automatic, high voltage, charging stations at the quaysides during unloading/loading of vehicles and passengers.

Power consumption:

  • The hull shape, propellers, heating and ventilation system etc. are optimized for lowest possible power consumption. Automatic mooring systems will enable the vessel to maintain its position alongside the pier without the use of power.
  • During operation at Flakk-Rørvik, the estimated gross energy use will be reduced by more than 70% compared to a conventional diesel powered ferry of same size.
